Social Justice Activity Grants

Since 2016, the Wesley Zaidan has been conducting the “Social Justice Activity Grants” project to “deepen international mutual understanding, contribute to the healthy development of the people’s mind and body through education, and contribute to the promotion of social welfare based on the spirit of Christ’s philanthropy” which is our establishment purpose.

Intended Activities for Grants

Intended activities are those that fall under any of the following fields (1) to (6) and are implemented every year from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.
(1) Healthy development of children or adolescents
(2) Activities that promote social welfare
(3) Promotion of international mutual understanding
(4) Activities for socially vulnerable groups
(5) Activities for women’s empowerment
(6) Revitalization of local communities

Requirements to Apply

Organizations that have offices in Japan and are active in the intended fields for grants (1) to (6) (Schools are included. It does not matter if they have corporate status or not, but they must have a track record of intended activities for grants for at least one year.)

  • Activities that can be carried out in Japan and overseas, and that can return the results to Japan
  • Activities that are not based on the missionary work of a particular religion or denomination, or on the philosophy of a particular political organization
  • Activities that are not profit-oriented or not resulting profit directly
  • No involvement with antisocial forces

Grant Amount/Intended Expenses for Grants

The upper limit shall be one million yen per project, and the grant amount shall be up to 80% of the cost of the entire project. Please check the application guide for more details on the total amount and the intended expenses for the grant.

Application Acceptance Period

From every November to mid-December (please check the application guide of the year for more details)

Application Process

Submit documents by mail and email attachment within the application acceptance period

Documents to Submit

  •  Application form
  •  Group rules, list of officers, accounting report, business report, etc.
  •  Outline of the project, quotation, etc.

* Download the application documents from the website and fill them in Japanese except where necessary such as proper nouns.
* Please note that application documents cannot be returned.

Selection and Notification of Results

The selection will be conducted by the Foundation’s Grant Selection Committee for Public Interest Activity. During the selection process, we may request additional materials and conduct hearings with applicants as necessary. Applicants will be notified of the selection results individually by email.

Screening Criteria

  • Whether applicants (group/individual) meet “3. Requirements to Apply”
  • Whether the contents of the project match “2. Intended Activities for Grants (1) to (6),” and the purpose of the project is clear
  • Plan validity and feasibility of the project implementation
  • Influence and impact of the project on society
  • Continuity and possibility of the project

Schedule from Application to Grant Delivery

Application acceptance period: Every November to mid-December

Grant notification: The selection result is notified by email by the end of January of the following year

Delivery: From April to the end of March of the following year

Report: Submit the report by the end of the month after the month in which the project is completed (exception: submit it by April 15 of the same year if the project is implemented in March)

Remittance: Two weeks after the approval of the report by the Foundation

Submission of Report

For projects that received the grant, submit the followings in the prescribed form by the end of the month after the month in which the project is completed (for projects implemented in March, submit it by April 15).

  1. Implementation report for public interest activity grant project (fill in Japanese except where necessary such as proper nouns)

  2. Voucher document regarding the expenditure of the entire project (copy is acceptable)
  3. Reference materials such as event guidelines, documentary photography, information leaflets, programs, etc.

* We may ask you for permission to post the report contents and photos on our website and Facebook.

Delivery Procedure/Cancellation/Reduction of Grants

  1. The grant amount will be assessed based on the application contents at the selection and tentatively determined. Therefore, it may be different from the applied amount. As a general rule, the grant will be delivered based on the report after the completion of the project. However, the delivery time will be determined after consultation if there are any special circumstances.
  2. Even after the grant delivery is finalized, it will be canceled when:
    ・ The project is changed or cancelled without the approval of the Foundation
    ・ The application is deemed to include false statement
    ・ The grant is deemed to be used for something other than the intended purpose
    ・ The Foundation deems it inappropriate
  3. The grant amount will be finalized based on the income and expenditure report submitted after the completion of the project. Expenditures deemed inappropriate may be deducted from the provisional grant amount.

Other Notes

  1. It is required to obtain the approval of the Foundation in advance when changing the contents of the project and the budget (adding/changing the expense items, etc.).
  2. When implementing the project, clearly state that this project is a Grant of the Wesley Foundation, with our name and logos, on publicity materials (flyers, posters, websites, SNS, etc.), and handouts (programs, recruitment of participants, materials, reports prepared at a later date, etc.) Also, attach one copy of each to the report.
  3. Projects selected for our Grants will be announced on the Foundation’s website.
  4. The grant can be delivered only once per year.
  5. Organizations that had received one of our grants in the past can send an application again. Please note that the priority may be lower at the selection review to provide more organizations with grant opportunity.
