Bangladesh

  • Halima Liza/Asian University for Women/Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy, And Economics

As my father got diagnosed with cancer in 2022, the Education Fee Grants of Wesley Zaidan was very necessary for me to continue my education. Because of the Education Fee Grants, I am still able to pursue my education, even after the death of my father.

Though my academic performance was hampered in the last two semesters because of the treatment and the subsequent death of my father, now I am focusing fully on my studies.

In Peace Cafe Asian University For Women, I have launched several projects in the last two semesters.

The topic was gender-based violence and how young girls can intervene.

I have also got selected for a summer exchange program at the University Of Tokyo. I will be visiting Japan this year. It is a fully funded program offered by the University Of Tokyo.

As for my future endeavors, I am currently planning to work on a project that will make girls more aware of the Inheritance rights and law that exists in Bangladesh. I am also writing an op-ed on Polygyny.

Thank you for this scholarship. This means a lot to me.

Indonesia

  • Jocelynne Christina Subroto/ Petra Christian University/Faculty of Humanities and Creative, Department of Interior Design

The Wesley Zaidan’s Education Fee Grants have been a blessing for me. It helps me to keep studying and pursuing my dream of becoming an Interior Designer. I also gain new experiences and connections through meeting other Fellows online, which helps me to realize how great and loving our God is. I am grateful and thankful to God for His blessing through this Grant, I will always remember this opportunity as a reminder that God is bigger than any of my problems and fuel for me to keep studying and achieving my dream for the future.

I am currently studying Interior Design and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Design. I love designing rooms and space, but I’m also interested in recycling, especially textile waste, since it has been a huge problem for our planet. I and my friends started this idea by using textile waste to make interior decorations. But due to limited time and budget, we couldn’t experiment enough with this idea.

    Upcycling Product

So, one day, I want to make my own recycling and upcycling furniture business which I hope will inspire people to also take action to help our planet. I also wanted to have my own Interior Design company where I can redesign and give kids who are low on the economy a proper study room and/or study table, hoping that will encourage them to keep studying comfortably and efficiently.

  • Andreas Junianto/ Petra Christian University/Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, Department of Civil Engineering

Thank you to Wesley Zaidan for the Education Fee Grants provided to me. This Education Fee Grant has been very helpful to me in many ways. Thanks to this Education Fee Grant, I have been able to continue my academic journey and pursue my studies in the field I am passionate about. Throughout my academic journey, I have learned many things such as time management, self-discipline, and hard work. Praise God, so far my academic journey has been great, and it would not have been possible without the presence of God and the support of my family.

During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, all learning in my country shifted online, and coincidentally, my parents’ business was a culinary located near the campus. As a result, my family’s economy was directly impacted, leading me to take a one-year college leaves. During this time, I also worked as a salesman to save money and assist my parents in paying tuition fees once college leaves ended. Later on, I started applying for available scholarships, and by God’s grace, I was selected as one of the recipients of Wesley Zaidan’s Education Fee Grants. This grant truly helped my family’s financial situation. My family and I are immensely grateful for receiving this grant.

The left side of the photo is Andreas

Furthermore, through this Education Fee Grant, I have had the opportunity to meet friends from different countries and listen to their stories. This has greatly inspired me to continue working hard to achieve my goals and aspirations. Currently, I am in my final year of college, and upon graduation, I aspire to work as a structural engineer. I want to bring happiness to my parents who have been striving for me and my siblings all these years. Additionally, I also aim to engage more frequently in social activities, where we can learn from one another and show mutual respect.

  • Effie Rambu Boba/Duta Wacana Christian University

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Effie Rambu Boba, and I am from Indonesia. As a student majoring in Informatics at Duta Wacana Christian University, I am incredibly grateful to have been chosen as one of the recipients of the Educational Fee Grant from Wesley Zaidan.
My academic journey has been a challenging yet rewarding experience. The transition from the fifth to the sixth semester was particularly tough. The fifth semester marked the return to face-to-face classes after a year of online learning. Adjusting to this change was difficult as I had become accustomed to studying remotely from my boarding house. Moreover, limited social interaction made me feel nervous when surrounded by many people. However, I persevered and gradually adapted to the new learning environment.

Worship service with the PMK Arrow Generation organization

In addition to academic activities in the fifth semester, I also filled my time by joining an organization called PMK Arrow Generation, which stands for “Christian Student Fellowship.” I participated in this organization to find good spiritual friends who could help me grow spiritually.

Educational Fee Grant from Wesley Zaidan has had a significant impact on my academic journey and life. With the support of the grant, I have been able to pursue my studies in Informatics, a field that I am passionate about. It has provided me with the opportunity to access quality education, attend valuable courses, and engage in practical experiences related to my field of study.
The grant has not only eased my financial burden but has also motivated me to excel in my academics. I have been able to focus more on my studies without worrying about the financial aspect. It has truly been a life-changing opportunity for me.

Currently, in the sixth semester, I am engaged in attending regular classes on campus and participating in the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.
In the MBKM program, I am involved in independent study activities at Bangkit Academy, led by Bangkit Academy 2023 by Google, GoTo, and Traveloka. Furthermore, I contribute to my community through church service, teaching Sunday school, and coordinating multimedia during worship services.

Looking ahead, my aspirations extend beyond my personal growth. I am driven to assist those in need, regardless of their background. Inspired by the support I received, I aim to develop impactful machine learning applications that address societal challenges. Specifically, I envision creating a tool to assess health risks, particularly in underserved regions like my hometown, Sumba Tengah. By leveraging machine learning, this application will facilitate informed decision-making in managing health risks, benefiting individuals and healthcare providers alike.

  • Jesica Chang/Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University/Faculty of Business and Economics, Management

Being the recipient of Wesley Zaidan’s Education Fee Grants is a blessing to me. What an amazing experience to be a small part of this foundation. At first, I felt that my chances of getting this opportunity were very small, but after going through this whole process I realized that everything is possible if God wills. None of this could have happened without His power. I hope that with the blessings I have received, in the future I can also be a blessing to other people out there. So, for anyone who is in despair, let’s get up because God is with you and there will always be a way out.

Philippines

  • Urseevi T. Tubio Jr./Silliman University/Bachelor of Science in Psychology

If I had to describe myself today, I’d start by saying that I’m a third-year psychology student who is determined to create safe spaces for the underprivileged and mistreated members of the community if I had to describe myself right now.

This is a description I could not have used for myself a year ago. In my first year of college, I believed that the variety of career options available to me after earning a degree in psychology was the only factor in my decision to pursue it as a major. The projects that I was able to participate in during my first year as a psychology student, however, helped me to rekindle my involvement in the community. Community relief programs during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, outreach projects, and establishing a community garden are some of the efforts that made me contribute the best of my abilities to help out people who were disadvantaged and also foster a sense of community and sustainability by redeveloping unused areas.
When my sophomore year started, my family, especially my mother, faced an overwhelming financial challenge and I had to take whatever scholarship opportunities I can to lighten my mother’s financial burden. I am deeply grateful for the Silliman University Students Scholarship and Aid Division for giving me the opportunity to apply for Wesley Zaidan’s  Education Fee Grant, and I am profoundly grateful to the people at Wesley Zaidan for choosing me to be one of the recipients of their Education Fee Grant. When I received the news of the success of my application, it gave me and my mother a lot of relief and I was able to focus more on my academic and extracurricular endeavors.

Because of that, I was able to bag a College Honor award from Silliman University, and I am currently elected to be one of the representatives in the Silliman University Student Government for the next academic year.
My purpose as a Psychology major in Silliman University evolved for the greater good of my community and my peers, and it would not be possible without the people around me – especially those who assisted me to make the process bearable. As a Wesley Zaidan Education Fee Grant for the year 2022, I will do my best to pay forward the blessings I received to my community and the
    Filipino people.

  • Peony Belle Adurante/ Central Philippine University/Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

This school year was indeed challenging, in terms of financial, mental, and in my academics. There were lots of ups and downs but I can happily say I’ve made it through this school year. Wesley Zaidan was a great help in our financial needs for it lessened my mom’s burden and gave me motivation to give my best in my studies. I am beyond grateful. I am now a part of the student body because I recently won as a Board Member in our department which is the College of Education. This opportunity will surely be a great way for me to serve and lead also to grow and learn a lot of things not just in school but also in life. As a future educator, it is my dream to be a key to success in every child’s dream and be a channel of blessing to many. I may be far from my dreams, but I am far enough to be grateful. In times of trouble just always look at the brighter side of every situation it will help you get it through.

  • Maria Cassandra Denise Ador/ Miriam College / Bachelor of Psychology

Growing up in a broken family was challenging but ultimately rewarding. Without my biological father present and witnessing my mother’s financial struggles, I was motivated to excel academically. I aimed to make my mother proud and alleviate her burdens. Throughout high school, I consistently received academic awards and led a thesis group that won the Best Thesis award. My high school journey was a balance of academic achievements and a fulfilling social life. However, a major setback occurred when my mother got married and my brother was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This led to financial difficulties and my mother had to quit her job to focus on my brother’s needs. I felt hopeless about my future, fearing I wouldn’t be able to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.

Fortunately, Wesley Zaidan’s Education Fee Grants provided an opportunity for me to continue pursuing my dreams. It brought peace of mind to our family regarding my education and future. I no longer had to worry about earning enough money to fund my education, and my mother could allocate her freelance commissions to my brother’s therapy and our basic needs.

Currently, in my second year of college, I am determined to excel and become a consistent recipient of Wesley Educational Assistance. This assistance has given me the opportunity to pursue my aspirations of becoming a psychologist and an advocate for mental health.

  • Nicole Jewel SJ Cortez/Miriam College/ Bachelor of Arts in Communication

Miriam College is a premier women’s Catholic educational institution founded by the Maryknoll Sisters of New York in 1926

My academic journey has been challenging as I juggle increasing responsibilities and tasks. However, the Education Fee Grants of Wesley Zaidan have been a motivating factor for me to strive for high grades, complete assignments, and attend classes. In my second year, we undertook a project on Music Video and Short Film in our Film Theory and Practices subject. Despite the hard work involved, it allowed me to bond with classmates and forge friendships.

    pre-production and production team

The grant has had a significant impact on my life by alleviating the financial burden of tuition fees and daily expenses. It brings joy to my family and me, knowing that we don’t have to worry excessively. I am grateful for the opportunity this scholarship has provided, and I am determined to make the most of it. I will study diligently, step out of my comfort zone, and seize every chance that comes my way.
Currently, I am engaged in two school organizations.

CCATT Singers/The school organization which she joined

CCATT Models which the school organization she joined

The first is CCATT Singers, the singing group affiliated with the Miriam College Communication Department. The second is CCATT Models, a sub-organization of Miriam College CommSoc, which stands for Creative Communication Arts Talents Team.

Looking ahead, my future aspiration is to become a prominent advocate for the empowerment and inclusivity of plus-size women. I am passionate about challenging societal beauty standards and promoting body positivity. My vision is to create a platform that celebrates the diverse body shapes and sizes of plus-size women, catering specifically to their experiences and needs. Through this advocacy, I hope to make a lasting impact on society and foster a more inclusive and accepting environment.

  • Fiona Sugianto/Petra Christian University

    School: Petra Christian University
    Major: Tax Accounting

Studying at this university has been her dream since long ago. In addition to her current activity, she is starting to learn languages, one of which is English and the other Korean. She is currently participating in the Tax Litigation Excursion Seminar.

Long-term goals and plans for the future

After gaining more experience at the company, I would like to work in the office of the Directorate General of Taxation and help many people who struggle to resolve issues such as tax payments, objections to tax payments, and the appeal and review process to resolve tax disputes that arise in Indonesia. After that, I want to expand my business and capabilities by opening my own tax consulting office or until I can open my own tax consulting office and help people who are having trouble dealing with their tax problems. In the future, I want to become an excellent tax accountant and make my family happy by fulfilling all my dreams.

  • Irene Suci Lestari/Maranatha Christian University

    School: Maranatha Christian University
    Major: Psychology

Long-term goals and plans for the future

After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I would like to continue to a Master’s degree with a specialization in Family Psychology to increase my knowledge in the field of Family Psychology. I would also like to contribute to the people in Indonesia who are not familiar with mental health and have difficulty receiving appropriate psychological help. The first project I would like to accomplish throughout my future career as a psychologist is to provide a free psychological service where clients can receive affordable support regardless of their financial status. These psychological services would include free psychological counseling, peer counseling, and mental health education to prevent and overcome mental illness. The second career goal I hope to achieve is to create a social community involved in family mental health. From that community, I can provide information through Social Media related to family issues, divorce, and even families with mental disorders and mental illnesses that are still taboo. Many families in Indonesia do not know about mental health. I would also like to support families and provide training to prospective husbands-wives and parents so that the home becomes a safe and comfortable place for each member.

Myanmar

  • Phone Zin Dashi/Myanmar Institute of Theology

    School: Myanmar Institute of Theology
    Major: Theology

Long-term goals and plans for the future

My goal and dream are to be a good pastor. In particular, I will do my best to serve the church and the community. I have a strong desire to serve in my local ministry work. When I become a pastor, I will be able to be given guidelines on how to be good citizens for the Christian life. I will serve and help the children and the church. I am very enthusiastic to learn Christian Education which is a branch of Church ministry or teaching ministry. I also want to be a good pastor, a good educator, and a good teacher for the children in the future life. These are the goals I have set in my life. I believe teaching is the noblest profession, and I know teachers are educators. I would like to teach and train the children and their parents as a shepherd. I am determined to try my very best and serve them to the best of my ability. My whole life is set upon this single goal. All the subjects I am learning right now, all my experience and efforts are not for my benefit but for the sake of serving in God’s teaching ministry. No matter what the obstacles may be, we will do our best to dedicate ourselves to God in prayer.

  • Thu Zar/Myanmar Institute of Theology

    School: Myanmar Institute of Theology
    Major: Theology

Long-term goals and plans for the future

In the future, I would like to become a professor at a Bible college and open a Christian International School, especially an elementary school in my hometown. I want the children in my hometown to speak English from childhood and learn many things such as art, practical use, and observation of other languages. There is no international school or English-related education in my town. So I want to implement this plan. I also want to do counseling for young people to teach God’s word. I want to use my body serving for God. I also want my country to give special priority to improving education. People all over the world faced the pandemic, and we faced many failures and difficulties. I am one of them because I lost my grandmother, whom I love the most, due to the Covid-19. My mother’s income was only enough to cover our monthly household expenses, and it was not enough to pay for my education. So I considered to stop my sophomore year in 2021 and was considering enrolling again in 2022, but Wesley Zaidan gave me a grant that allowed me to continue for a second year. I thought it was grace from God through Wesley Zaidan that this grant allowed me to continue my studies.

Philippines

  • Analyn M. Cabacang/ Southern Christian College

    School: Southern Christian College
Major: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Long-term goals and plans for the future

After getting my degree, I am planning to continue serving the community, continue what my heart love to do, my passion, and my home. Since I was a child, I always wanted to help those people in need, especially those people living in rural areas that are not accessible to the help and support from the government. I want to uplift Bangsamoro People which consists of our Muslim brothers and sisters and Indigenous People whose voices are not heard and are always at the last row in terms of equality and equity. As a future Extension worker, I always aimed to help them develop not just their skills and knowledge but also their personal development so that at the end of the day they will know how to fight for their rights and share their thoughts. I am also willing to work on Non-Governmental Organizations, Government Offices, or Private Sectors that envision equal access to opportunities, fair treatment, and practices equality and equity. I will use all my knowledge and apply all the theories I’ve learned to empower not just myself, the people surrounding me but especially the people that I can help, as far as I can reach and as long as I can. I will always do what my heart says and no one can stop me to help and extend my hand to those in need.

  • Generica R. Ybañez/Southern Christian College

    School: Southern Christian College
Major: Bachelor of Science in Extension Education

Long-term goals and plans for the future

I am one of the students who valued the importance of education and a student who is determined to accomplish my simple dream and an ambition to give back to my family. From when I was a child until when I got this far, I see and understand how essential to be educated and know how I am able to instill and how to reach others. I am studying Extension Education because this is my dream. The dream of helping back to the community, and a dream of giving back to them what they deserve. As a community worker, I can see how they badly need my assistance and how they long for someone who can understand them and can help them assist in all the things they wanted and know the story of their lives, and let them know that they are not fighting their battles alone. My plan after I finish my studying is to help my family and my constituents. When I am having my community outreach I realized that there are a lot more needs in the community that really needs pure intervention and something that we need to address. After I finish my study, I will go back to the communities that really need my help and engage with them, give assessments, and have a heart talk. I firmly believe that giving back to the community and serving the people is truly necessary to make this place wonderful and I will see a silver lining in all aspects of their untold stories.

It is necessary to keep the literary scene alive in the Philippines, and I intend to participate in this endeavor. Regarding my community service activities, I plan to engage in volunteer work both locally and abroad. Pursuing a holistic education should encompass the world beyond one’s borders. • Justine Jean Guillermo/ Xavier University- Ateneo de Cagayan

School: Xavier University- Ateneo de Cagayan
Major: Bachelor of Science major in Nursing

My country(the Philippines) has produced a lot of competent and skilled health workers. However, because of the bigger opportunities offered abroad many of them decided to leave the Philippines and work outside the country. This is a sad reality because my country itself is in need of competent, compassionate, and skilled health workers, especially during this time of the pandemic. As a student nurse, one of my long-term goals is to serve my countrymen. I believe that the knowledge and the talent I am honing right now will be of great use to many people here. Thus after passing my licensure exam, I plan to work in public hospitals. These kinds of healthcare settings are the ones that are usually short in staff and have loads of patients who depend on the government’s help only. Furthermore, I also plan to widen my experience and challenge my capabilities by volunteering in providing medical help to remote places and to people who have less. My goals in the future are just simple but I make sure that the plans I make involve helping and inspiring others. After all, the true essence of being a nurse is seen through how she can deliver care passionately and sincerely.

Long-term goals and plans for the future

It is my dream to become a public servant that would defend the oppressed and underprivileged Filipinos someday. That is the main reason why I took a prelaw course which is the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration at Central Philippine University. I believed that this career would help me achieve my goal someday- to become a lawyer. I instilled within myself that this dream wouldn’t become reality through magic and an easy road; it must take sweat, determination, and hard work.

How the educational grant helps your studies and life

When the pandemic started, many tables turned. My father’s work became limited and we suffered from financial problems all the time. I also tried to apply for some scholarships but because of an unstable internet connection before, I didn’t have the chance to continue it. This educational grant helps me lessen my financial expenses and also ignites my burning passion to work and study harder. This gave me hope to continue what I have started. I believe that a good education is a lifelong asset and investment. Through this grant, I was able to strive harder to fulfill my career goals and aspirations.

Long-term goals and plans for the future
I chose the Psychology course because I am interested in studying the human mind. I am also very passionate about mental health and self-love. Going into this course, I honestly did not know what career path I should take, but all I know is that I wanted to do something related to psychology and spread humanism and love and care for others. Going through this course helped me find my choices. Currently, I am interested in becoming a doctor, especially a pediatrician. After taking a psychology course called “Human Developmental Psychology,” I became interested in the growth and development of children and people – how crucial, nurturing early life is

    School: University Divinity School
Major: Bachelor of Theology, Major in Pastoral Ministry

Long-term goals and plans for the future

My long-term goals would be to graduate from seminary and serve the church as a pastor. I’d also like to get ordained. If God allows, I’d like to pursue another course, which is the law. I’d want to offer this as a way to assist church members with legal matters. And, if given the chance, I’d like to further my theological study, that is if both time and finances would allow. I intend to attend various seminars and training that will help me learn more things in a way that will be useful in the future when I am in the field as a pastor. After I graduate, I want to put everything I’ve learned at seminary to practice and share it with individuals in the church, as well as the community and others in need. I want to get engaged in the community and interact with them on a more holistic level; to be a good citizen and a good Christian in the community, and inspire others to do the same via my example.

Long-term goals and plans for the future

For as long as I can remember, I have always dreamt of becoming a doctor, but it was not until late 2019 that I started to aspire to improve the availability of a quality healthcare institution in my hometown and tilt the status quo concerning healthcare for the better; all due to the passing of my grandmother. My father’s untimely demise soon followed last August 2021, and all I was left with are the familiar what-ifs and what could have been. The possibility of having prolonged the lifespan of these two most important people in my life we had near access to quality and affordable hospitals continues to haunt me to this day. Thus, I have made it my life’s purpose to establish a fully functioning hospital in my hometown which offers quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare; a hospital that prioritizes the people overpower and profit.
To achieve this extraordinary and seemingly far too ambitious goal, I have been exerting extraordinary efforts in my studies as well so that I will graduate with flying colors, secure my slot in the 2024 Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination list of top notchers to earn a medical school scholarship and work for the realization of my aspirations.

Long-term goals and plans for the future

My career long-term goals and plans for the near future include attending med school and deciding on psychiatry as a specialty. After graduating, I will study for NMAT board exam or Psychometrician board exam. Being a psychiatrist is the most direct option for career entry, giving me the best chance to pursue my dream career. I want to help educate the community about the importance of mental health, as well as cancer patients/survivors who have been suffering from mental health issues during and after therapy. As a community service, I will provide an affordable consultation and medicine to every barangay and area that cannot afford to go to the doctor. This is my passion, and I have a clear plan to turn that passion into a lifelong career.
