Community and Development Grants

“Community and Development Grants,” is a large-scale and continuous project implemented in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, and we deliver grants to projects that aim at social and economic independence by promoting the proactive participation and cooperation of people in the intended support areas.

Intended Projects/Period

Projects that meet any of the following purposes are eligible for grants.

  1. Poverty alleviation
  2. Advancement of education/Human resources development
  3. Health and hygiene improvement
  4. Welfare improvement for socially vulnerable groups
  5. Improvement of the local living environment after a disaster

The grant period is one year.

Requirements to Apply

  • A project implemented in Japan and Asia-Pacific region
  • A project aimed at social and economic independence by promoting the proactive participation and cooperation of people in the intended support area
  • The local situation and needs have been well researched
  • Having corporate status, an office in Japan, and a clear responsibility
  • Having activity record for more than five years as an organization
  • An effort to further enhance and develop the project that has been implemented for more than two years at the point of application
  • Having a leading counterpart or dispatched/stationed staff from the organization in the project implementation area
  • Activities that are not based on the missionary work of a particular religion or denomination, or on the philosophy of a particular political organization
  • Activities that are not for profit-oriented or not resulting profit directly
  • No involvement with antisocial forces

Please note that one organization can apply for only one project.

Grant Amount/Intended Expenses for Grants

The activity’s budget shall be about two million yen, and the grant amount shall be up to 80% of the cost of the entire project. 

Application Acceptance Period

From every February to March (please check the application guidelines of the year for more details)

Application Process

Submit documents by mail and as an email attachment within the application acceptance period

Documents to Submit

  • Application form, income and expenditure budget document *Fill out the prescribed form and submit it in PDF format
  • Organization-related materials (organization rules, officer list, accounting report, project report, income and expenditure budget document, project plan, activity statement, etc.)
  • Project-related materials (overall project plan and budget document, medium- and long-term project plans, quote, etc.)

* Download the application documents from the website and fill them in Japanese except where necessary such as proper nouns.
* Please note that application documents cannot be returned.

Selection and Notification of Results

The selection will be conducted by the “Community and Development Grants Selection Committee of Legacy Fund” in the following steps.

  1. Document screening
  2. Presentation regarding the project plan by the project manager and an interview (prepare presentation materials with PowerPoint etc., and expect to conduct with ZOOM)

During the selection process, we may request additional materials as needed. The selection result will be notified by email to the contact person of the applicant organization.

Screening Criteria

  • Whether applicant organizations meet all of conditions listed in “3. Requirements to Apply”
  • Whether the contents of the project match “2. Intended Projects (① to ⑤)” and the purpose of the project is clear.
  • Whether the applicants have the necessary experience and skill to implement the project
  • Whether the project plan and implementation system are reasonable and the contents of necessary budget is appropriately estimated
  • Whether the contents of the project promote the local independence and development with cooperation of people in the intended support area
  • Whether the project can be expected to have an impact for Humanitarian Work
  • Whether the applicants are trying to secure their own financial resources
  • Whether the continuity, developability, and spillover effect of the project can be expected

Schedule from Application to Grant Delivery

Application

From every February to March 

Grant Decision

The selection result is notified by email by the end of April

Interim Report

Submit a prescribed interim report by the end of September

Final Report

Submit a prescribed final report by the end of the month after the month in which the project is completed (or by April 5 if the project is completed in March)

Submission of Report

Organizations receiving the grants are required to submit the following reports. If the report contents are insufficient, we may ask you to resubmit the report, reduce the grant amount, or return it.

【Interim Report】
By the end of September, submit:

  1. Interim report
  2. Interim financial statements and copies of voucher

【Final Report】
Submit the followings in the prescribed form by the end of the month after the month in which the project is completed (for project implemented in March, submit by April 5).

  1. Final report of the implemented project
  2. Voucher documents regarding expenditures corresponding to such grants (copy is acceptable)
  3.  Set of deliverables

* We may ask you for permission to post the report contents and photos on our website and Facebook.
* We may ask you to have a debrief session after the project is completed.

 

Delivery Procedure/Cancellation/Reduction of Grants

  1. The grant amount may be different from the applied amount.
  2. The number and timing of the grant remittance will be determined in individual consultation with the contact person of the organization.
  3. Even after the grant delivery is finalized, it may be cancelled and we may ask you to return the grant when:
    ・ The project is changed or cancelled without the approval of the Foundation
    ・ The application is deemed to include false statement
    ・ The grant is deemed to be used for something other than the intended purpose
    ・ The Foundation deems it inappropriate
  4. As for expenditures deemed inappropriate in the settlements of accounts, delivered grants may be asked to be returned.
  5. When the Foundation deems it necessary, we will conduct the investigation regarding the contents and accounting of the project (including inspection of the activity site).
  6. It is required to obtain the approval of the Foundation in advance when changing the project contents and budget (addition/change of expense items, etc.). We may not approve the new proposal if there are significant changes to the project contents and budget

Other Notes

  1. When implementing the project, clearly state that this project is a Grant of the Wesley Zaidan, with our name and logos, on publicity materials (posters, websites, SNS, etc.), handouts, and homepage. Also, please attach one copy of each to the year-end report and the completion report after the project is completed.
  2. Grant receivers may be asked to cooperate with the Foundation’s project as necessary.
  3. Personal information obtained from application documents will be managed rigidly and will be used only for the selection of the grant. However, the name of the organization, the project name to be implemented, and the contents of the project will be published on the Foundation’s website once the grant delivery is finalized.
