Report on Soichi Watanabe Art Exhibition – Expressions of God’s Grace and Prayer

The exhibition featured 21 works by Christian artist Soichi Watanabe, who has spent many years reflecting on the words of the Bible and expressing their messages through his distinctive artistic style. The exhibition also included new works created especially for this occasion, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a variety of artistic expressions inspired by Scripture.
Over the three-day exhibition, we welcomed 127 visitors. On October 23 and 24, Watanabe gave special lectures entitled “As Jars of Clay,” attended by a total of 42 participants—22 on Friday and 20 on Saturday.

During the lectures, Watanabe shared his personal and artistic journey, reflecting on how he developed his present artistic style. He spoke about his encounter with God during his youth, the challenges and explorations he experienced as an artist, and his journey as a Christian artist. He also shared his experiences of meeting and interacting with artists from various Asian countries through the Asian Christian Art Association. In addition, he spoke about the thoughts and inspirations behind the works displayed in the exhibition. Participants listened attentively to his words, delivered in a gentle and warm manner.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors also had opportunities to speak directly with Watanabe, allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation of his artwork. It was particularly meaningful to see visitors taking their time to reflect on each piece.
We hope that this exhibition provided an opportunity for visitors to reflect on the words of the Bible and their faith through art, while experiencing the richness of Christian art.
We sincerely thank everyone who visited the exhibition and express our heartfelt appreciation to Soichi Watanabe for his generous cooperation in making this exhibition possible.
