CHAD Laos Progress Report 1

Wesley Zaidan, in collaboration with CHAD (Community Health and Development), the Mission Initiative Office, and the local community, is implementing a 5-year project in Vietnam and Laos. For more details about the project, please click here.

As part of the project’s efforts to improve sanitation, toilets are being installed in each household.

Please read the stories of individuals who have received toilet installations through the project.

Mr. Lien resides in a supported area in Laos. He started working as a delivery staff at a local shop in their teenage years and later switched to a construction job in Vietnam. After dedicating himself to the new job for two months, he encountered a serious accident that resulted in the amputation of both arms and legs. Despite the severe injury, Mr.Lien and his family managed to maintain hope and live with the desire to fulfill their needs.

Due to the loss of both arms and legs in the accident, it was difficult for Mr. Lien to use the toilet without assistance from his family. Whenever there was a need to use the toilet, his siblings had to accompany them to the nearby bushes.

The staff of CHAD, a partner organization of Wesley Zaidan, learned about the situation of Mr. Lien and his family. Recognizing the need for a specially designed toilet that would suit Mr. Lien’s physical condition, they decided to install a new toilet. As a result, Mr. Lien can now independently use the toilet.

In the supported areas of Laos, toilet installations are being carried out in each household as part of the efforts to improve sanitation. Other initiatives, such as capacity building and well construction, are also being implemented. We will continue to provide updates on these activities.

Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
