Partnership Project: GBV Safe App Launch Event

Since 2022, Wesley Zaidan has been partnering with UNFPA (the United Nations Population Funds) to support the project “Pathway to Gender Equality in Cambodia: Safeguarding Women and Young Girls against Gender-Based Violence”.

This project is the development and implementation of a smartphone application aimed at protecting women and youth in Cambodia from gender-based violence (GBV). This initiative is a collaboration between UNFPA and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) of Cambodia.

On November 25, 2024—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) in Phnom Penh officially launched the groundbreaking GBV Safe App with UNFPA and Wesley Zaidan support. This announcement occurred on the first day of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.*

* A campaign running for 16 days from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day.

Wesley Zaidan’s Representative Director, Hikari Kokai, participated in this official launch event.

What is the GBV Safe App?

The GBV Safe App was developed to help women and youth in Cambodia who have experienced violence easily access information, support, and care. The app provides the following key features:

  • Access to essential information: Raises awareness about gender-based violence and sexual harassment while informing users about their rights and available support services.
  • Connecting to support networks: Links users to essential services such as hotlines, legal assistance, and psychosocial counseling.
  • Safety and security features: Provides tools to enhance user safety, including direct emergency hotline calls and a real-time location-sharing feature (to be implemented in the future).

The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms. It can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store, and the iOS version will soon be available on the Apple App Store. To protect user privacy, the app minimizes the required registration information while offering user-friendly features such as voice call functions and links to relevant video content.
